Rwanda's agricultural sector is undergoing a remarkable transformation, led by none other than its own youth! Forget the stereotype of agriculture being an "old man's game." AGRIRESEARCH UNGUKA Ltd, a private research and extension company, shattered that notion by becoming the first youth-led initiative of its kind in Rwanda that does research as business.

These young pioneers didn't just break barriers; they thrived. AGRIRESEARCH UNGUKA Ltd is now a prominent player in agricultural research and extension, not just in Rwanda, but beyond its borders.

But their ambition doesn't stop there. The same youth are now leading the charge with the Agricultural Green Research and Innovation Park Initiative (AGRIPI) – Rwanda's first-ever agricultural research and innovation center, hosted at the University of Rwanda, College of Agriculture, Animal Sciences and Veterinary Medicine (UR-CAVM). AGRIPI tests and develop technologies, and best practices for regenerative agriculture and eco-friendly post-harvest solutions.

AGRIPI: Cultivating the Future of Rwandan Agriculture

AGRIPI is a green innovation powerhouse with three core activities:

1.     Research and Development: Uncovering new green solutions and advancements in agriculture.

2.     Farmer Training and Education: Empowering farmers with the Climate-Smart knowledge and skills they need to succeed.

3.     Science-Based Green Agribusiness Incubation Program: Nurturing the next generation of Green-agribusiness entrepreneurs.

Celebrating Innovation: The First AGRIPI Cohort

On June 20, 2024, a significant milestone was reached. AGRIPI, in partnership with AEE Rwanda, launched its Science-Based Green Agribusiness Incubation Program at the Snow Hotel. Seven exceptional young innovators, with brilliant ideas for sustainable agribusiness ventures, were selected through a rigorous application process.

These young minds particularly impressed with their green ideas for creating compost and organic fertilizers, a testament to AGRIPI's focus on environmentally friendly practices.

This launch marks a new chapter in Rwanda's agricultural story. With AGRIPI's guidance and support, these young innovators have the potential to revolutionize the sector, ensuring a future of sustainable food production and economic prosperity for all.
